Roundhay Park, Leeds - Yorkshire Engagement Session Photography. -Emma & Rob.

An early autumn evening, Roundhay Park in Leeds was looking fine with the changing trees and evening light. We got to share a couple of hours with these two lovely humans Emma + Rob. They have booked us to do their wedding photography and videography next year in September. We can’t wait for their Yorkshire pub wedding at The Faversham in Leeds. We had so much fun with these two and got followed by a large amount of swans (keep scrolling and you’ll see)

We like to keep our engagement photography as natural and un-posed as possible! Emma and Rob were great at keeping laughing and following our prompts!

Six Of The Very Best Barn Wedding Venues in Yorkshire.

At Caitlin + Jones, we have had the lovely opportunity to work in some beautiful barn venues across Yorkshire. As Yorkshire Wedding Photographers, we just love a good barn. There is something wonderful about celebrating your wedding day in a building so full of history. Barns provide a blank canvas for couples wanting to let their DIY abilities shine! The visual combination of wooden beams, exposed brickwork and a rustic atmosphere is perfect for the bride and groom who want to step away from a traditional celebration. As photographers, here are a few of our favourites from around the Yorkshire area…

Cheerful Chilli Barn, Otley, West Yorkshire

1- Cheerful Chilli Barn, Otley, West Yorkshire

The Chilli Barn is a solid favourite of ours. A Wharfedale Yorkshire stone barn overlooking acres beautiful rural countryside, it has been in the family for six generations, lovingly converted for wedding celebrations. It is licensed to conduct both outdoor and indoor marriage ceremonies. While the indoor capacity for a ceremony in 60, outdoor ceremonies could be negotiated to perhaps accommodate more guests. They are a really supportive venue, offering a meeting with their event planner as a standard when booking. We absolutely loved their menu; they offer a really amazing vegetarian choice too (bear this in mind as 2019 is the Year of the Vegans!). They have so much outdoor space including garden games to occupy your guests; a fire pit for the evening and hay bales around the lawn to sit on during a drinks reception. The evening capacity for the party is 90, so invite a few more to join in the celebration. It’s only a short walk from the Otley Chevin which is a perfect location for your couple’s portrait session. At Caitlin + Jones we really recommend including a couple’s shoot in your wedding day schedule. Like most wedding photographers, we love catching the hour before sunset. It gives the most perfect lighting all year round. The Cheerful Chili Barn also borders woodland, meadows and moorland too, so the possibilities for your portraits are endless! Have a look at their website for more information:

Deepdale Farm – Pickering, North Yorkshire

2- Deepdale Farm – Pickering, North Yorkshire

Deepdale Farm is nestled in the most idyllic spot, not too far from Pickering in North Yorkshire. Now this is a lifesaver of a barn for those of you with a massive family. We know the pressure of trying to find a venue that will allow you to invite all of your close family (nods to Nathan with his tribe of sixty). This venue can seat up to 180 guests! After hosting a couple of family weddings, the people of Deepdale Farm decided to share their wonderful space with other couples. This space is truly a blank canvas, with a main barn (including a rustic bar area) and smaller ceremony barn adjoining on the side to create spaces with different atmospheres. They offer a huge space with so many different areas: we especially loved their Grillkota; a round wooden hut with seating for about fifteen people, a fire crackling away in the centre to keep your guests cosy and entertained. With camping onsite too, you really can host your dream festival-style wedding. See the website for more details:

Airedale Barn Weddings at East Riddleston Hall – Keighley, West Yorkshire

3- Airedale Barn Weddings at East Riddleston Hall – Keighley, West Yorkshire

A great National Trust venue with so much history! This Grade II listed barn sits on the old West Yorkshire Estate of East Riddleston Hall. With foundations of the hall itself dating back to the year 973, it doesn’t get much more historic than this. The Airedale Barn transports you into the past with its beautiful wooden beams. It’s fully licensed for wedding ceremonies you can enjoy your whole day there. The lovely gardens are available for you to use for your photographs, or just to explore. The sunken rose garden, fragrant lavender beds and wild flowers offer beautiful backdrops for family formals or couples shoots. Anyone hiring this barn for their wedding also contributes to conserving it for future generations, see the National Trust website for additional details:

Deighton Lodge – York, North Yorkshire

4- Deighton Lodge – York, North Yorkshire

The newly renovated Deighton Lodge is a stunning setting for your barn wedding. With the option for outdoor or indoor ceremonies you have so much choice. Bare brick walls, stable doors, original pitched roof and beams… beautifully bespoke. Even on a rainy day your wedding photographers would have opportunities for fantastic indoor photographs. With on-site accommodation for up to 19 guests, a designated Bridal Parlour for the bride and bridesmaid’s preparation (gentlemen are offered the Snooker Room for their use) and a Wedding Co-ordinator included in your package, it makes the most relaxed setting for your wedding day. Just when you thought it sounds like it couldn’t possibly be any more stress-free… they have a spa next door. Cue choir music. They only take on a limited number of weddings a year (only 15!) ensuring you get a totally personal and tailored wedding. Talk to Carla at: or visit:

The Normans – York, North Yorkshire

5- The Normans – York, North Yorkshire

A newly converted 18th century barn on the outskirts of York; The Normans farm has belonged to the same family for three generations. It includes four different spaces, all of which you can use fully for your wedding day: The Courtyard, linking all the separate spaces, perfect for the drinks reception whatever the weather, thanks for a huge umbrella thoughtfully installed thanks to the Yorkshire weather! Eden Barn - Kirkby Stephen, The Yorkshire Dales

6- Eden Barn - Kirkby Stephen, The Yorkshire Dales

Last but not least, Eden Barn. A little hidden gem set on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales countryside, bordering the Pennines and the Lake District National Park. Beautiful locations in the Lake District are only a short distance away… couples photography shoot at Ullswater Lake anyone? While even closer you’ll find lovely locations for photographs in the Yorkshire Dales. Exposed stone walls and floors make this the perfect barn wedding venue. Cosy and intimate in feeling for weddings that are a little smaller than the other venues but it still can seat up to 140 day guests and 180 evening guests. It includes a hand-crafted oak bar set in front of a floral canopy, a stone flagged floor and a rustic wooden vaulted ceiling. Highgate, London Stoke Newington Town Hall and Star Pub Summer Wedding - Chloe + Ben

Remember the beautiful hot summer days? They seem a million miles away now the clocks have change and we are deep into Autumn. But this wedding will remind you of sunnier times. Chloe and Ben are such wonderful people, it was a pleasure to be there and document their London wedding.

When these two got in touch with us to discuss their Stoke Newington Town Hall wedding we were beyond excited as we have always dreamed of shooting a London town hall wedding, and to make things even better they told us the reception was going to be held in a London pub! Dreams really do come true.

Chloe wore the most perfect dress from HalfPenny London she looked absolutely amazing all day. They had their ceremony at Stoke Newington Town Hall and the pub reception at The Star Highgate.

There were countless heartwarming family moments including the couple’s grandparents being the witnesses to the marriage register being signed! Hope you enjoy looking through these beautiful memories.

In Conversation With... Sian Chaplin - Yorkshire Wedding and Events Planner.

“I am so lucky to work with such creative couples..”

What’s your business name and where are you based?

My business name is simply my name just to make things easy! Sian Chaplin Events. I am based in Leeds, West Yorkshire but plan and coordinate weddings across Yorkshire and the UK.

How long have you been a wedding planner?

I set up my business back in January 2017 and went fully self employed as of May 2018. I have been in the events industry for over 12 years now so it's honestly a dream come true to be able to work with couples full time as part of my own events business.

What inspires you the most about your work?

My couples! The majority of the weddings I get involved with are the DIY and outdoor types which involve a lot of creativity, unique ideas and hard work from each and every couple plus often their family and friends. I am so lucky to work with such creative couples who really want to make their day personal to them both. The ideas they come up with are so fun and unique!

“My best piece of advice? Do not stress! Take it slowly, make lists, get your loved ones involved and enjoy it”

What has been the most rewarding part of your job?

The friendships I build with my couples is most definitely the most rewarding part of my work and one of the many reasons why I love what I do. Planning a wedding takes a lot of hours and hard work so receiving such lovely feedback from my couples makes it all so worth it, especially when they say how grateful there are to have had me there to support them with the planning and coordination of their special day.

When it comes to weddings, what advice would you give to brides and grooms starting to plan and think about planning options?

When you are ready to start wedding planning it's important to focus and note down a list of what you need to do and when. Take advantage of the checklists that you see in magazines and online, it will make the whole planning process a lot easier and less overwhelming. Focus on your guest numbers, budget, ideal month/date and look and feel of your day before you consider searching for a venue and booking your church ceremony or registrar. Once you have the venue and ceremony confirmed you can then look at all other suppliers such as your photographer, caterer, florist, entertainment etc. Be aware of the time of year as often suppliers get booked up well in advance during high season. The important thing to remember though is to not rush into booking your suppliers. Take your time to do your research, get recommendations from family and friends, go to wedding fairs and check out their reviews. . Plan regular date nights with your partner and remember that this day is about the both of you!

What are your favourite details of weddings to plan and be creative with?

Outdoor and DIY weddings are so much fun and always involve lots of fabulous ideas and quirky suppliers. I love getting involved with the DIY projects that couples set out to create. Often I'll be setting up on the morning whilst the couple enjoy getting ready, which involves putting all of their creative creations into place such as DIY table plans, photo backdrops and garden games.

This is going to sound ridiculously boring but I'm also a sucker for a schedule! For every wedding I get involved in I create a schedule that details each and every supplier involved along with the timings from the day of set up to take down. I'm such a geek when it comes to anything like this and often my suppliers and couples comment on how detailed and great it is which is always nice to hear!

“The friendships I build with my couples is most definitely the most rewarding part of my work”

Have you had any stand-out weddings that you loved and why?

It's really hard to choose but I would have to say my first wedding that I coordinated when setting up my business was so quirky and fun I honestly don't think I'll witness a day like that again! It was a huge garden festival weddings with actors who dressed up as grannies to serve afternoon tea along with a bar that looked like an ice cream van and a bell tent village for all of the guests. It was amazing! I also love to experience weddings where there are a mixture of cultures and traditions. My last wedding of 2018 was a mixture of English and Nigerian traditions which was so fantastic to see and a lot of fun!

Top Tips from Yorkshire Wedding Planner Sian Chaplin

5 Ways to Keep Your Wedding Planning Stress Free!

Weddings can be beautiful, emotional and special days. Your wedding is a unique celebration of your love to all of your family and friends. But sadly, with emotions running high and pressure building as the day nears, it can also become a stressful time.

Months or even years of wedding planning and the expectation that this will be the happiest, most beautiful, memorable day of your life… these ideas can quickly become pressures.

So how can you make sure that your wedding day is as stress free as possible? How can you de-stress the planning process to make sure that you and your partner can enjoy the most relaxed wedding day?

As Yorkshire wedding photographers, we have observed so many brides and grooms make a success of their wedding planning. Having learned from the best, we want to share that wisdom with all of you! Here are seven tips to help you enjoy your stress-free wedding planning!

1. Make Lists.

Make Lists and Break it down into Timed Chunks

It may sound simple, but keeping a mental to-do list will make you feel mentally pressured, overwhelmed or stressed. But… a long, lengthy list of everything you’ll ever need to plan your wedding will be completely daunting. Break up your list into things you can do right away, things you will do next month, or even things you can do the month or week before the wedding day.

We will be writing a blog post on how to plan a wedding quite soon, but remember to sort the big things first (venue, legal stuff, caterers and of course, photographers!)

Having your wedding planning split up into manageable tasks will make you feel relaxed and lower the pressure of how much you have to do.  It will also make you feel reassured, that you’ve done all you can for this point in time.

2. Take a break…

Have time where you take a break from wedding planning.

Your family and friends will be really excited about your special day, so they will want to know details and plans and updates on your wedding planning. Your life can quickly become nothing but weddings! Make sure you give yourself a mental break to relax and de-stress from the wedding. Your life is varied so make sure you enjoy that all of that variety in the months leading up to your special day! Spending time with loved ones and enjoying all your usual ways of relaxing is so important.

3. Let other people help.

If someone else can do it, let them!

Delegate, delegate, delegate!

Your closest friends will want to help. Let them! They may not do the job exactly in the way you expect, but if you communicate your ideas clearly, they will be able to take the load of your hands. A wedding is a huge event to plan, so let people help you!

4. You can’t please them all.

Don’t try to keep everyone happy.

Everyone has an opinion on how you should plan your wedding. From where you should get married to what month of the year to how many traditions you include. To keep your wedding stress free, only include the parts of the day that you really care about. If you don’t want to cut the cake, don’t cut the cake! If a first dance makes you feel anxious, organise your family and the bridal party to all dance along with you. Don’t squash in other people’s expectations at the expense of your enjoyment. They will enjoy the day anyway and enjoy seeing you and your partner relaxed and happy!

5. Don’t expect perfection.

Have reasonable expectations of the day

Your pictures will look even more beautiful if you are happy and relaxed.

Be reasonable about how long certain parts of the day will take. Being rushed or having too much time to kill will lead to unhappy guests and a stressed bride and groom. Make sure you plan time to spend a little quiet time together during the wedding day, whether that is a first look before the ceremony or a couples shoot in the evening light. At Caitlin + Jones Photography we can absolutely recommend the value of doing this, both to keep your wedding enjoyable and to have even more beautiful pictures for your memories!

The ArtWorks Wedding Venue, Halifax. Botantic House, Industrial Mill Wedding - Faye + Scott

Faye + Scott tied the knot at the Halifax Minster on one of the hottest days of the summer. Their reception was held at The Artworks in Halifax, Faye and Scott had done so much of the styling and the work themselves, the room really did feel like you were stepping into their home, from the Boho wicker chairs to the hanging hoops with greenery on and the Persian rugs.

The amazing blooms were made by Gabriella Brook Florist

And also need I say more about that cape! (Kindling Bridal)

This day was full of vibrancy, happiness and a bit of cat-themed memorabilia. Enjoy looking through these sunny memories and laughing along with the hilarious speech reactions from Scott.

Samantha + Jamie's Cow and Calf Sunset Engagement Session

We got lucky with the light... like really lucky. Probably the most glorious golden hour ever, in one of the most beautiful places in Yorkshire with the sweetest couple. Yeah, you could say we were pretty happy about this session! At the beginning of the shoot Sam and Jamie told us 'we are so camera shy and awkward' but then proceed to absolutely slay it and look amazing the whole time! The images speak for themselves, so romantic and tender. You can't help but smile looking through these.

Emily + Chris' Houghton Tower Wedding

Spending the day with these two was such a joy. We knew them quite well already, Emily was a bridesmaid at one of our lovely weddings in 2017 and we had met Chris in Liverpool for their pre-wedding shoot. They are such a lovely couple and so up for a laugh. Their day took place at Houghton Tower a beautiful, ancient building with so much history and character. The blooms added a splash of colour to the day and a true reflection of Emily and Chris's happy personalities. Hair and make-up was done by the talented Jodie and the girls looked flawless all day!

Enjoy looking through the lovely memories.

Faye + Scott Pre-Wedding Session Feat. Cute Little Cat and Cracking Sunset.

We had a lot of fun with these two when we met them for their pre wedding session a few weeks back. We walked along the canal and timed it perfectly with the light and the flipping beautiful hedgerow blossom. Then we drove to some woodland and they both risked their lives to get into the stream for some photos with a cute little 3 legged cat following us everywhere and THEN we drove up to Norland Moor to see possibly the BEST SUNSET EVER. It was super dreamy and like something from the end of a Nicholas Sparks film. Keep scrollin' because it only gets better.

We are reeeeeeally excited to shoot their wedding in a few weeks.. it's going to be a blast.

Beth + Liam Destination Wedding, Sorrento, Italy.

Sorrento is the most incredible place, a place that I have always dreamed of being able to visit. So when Beth and Liam got in touch about shooting their wedding out there we were totally up for it and extremely excited.

The whole wedding was totally glam and beautiful. There was a moment during the meal where Nathan and I were sat down, taking it all in and we just could not believe we were in Sorrento, working a cool job. It was a surreal moment and a huge highlight on 2017.

The day was organised by and I would highly recommend checking them out if you're thinking of getting married abroad!

Enjoy looking through the images and soaking in that Italian sunshine (even if it is just through a screen..)
