We don’t need to talk about the obvious, 2020 has been the craziest year ever. But despite this, love always wins and humans still want to get married. But what if your wedding plans have to change at the last minute? What would it be like if you can only have 15 people attend? Would it still feel like a wedding?

Have a read of our Q&A with recent bride Rianne about her London elopement wedding this summer.

-When and where did you get married?

26th August, Tavistock House Registry Office, Bloomsbury, London; family meal afterwards at Drake & Morgan, Kings Cross.

-Was this your original plan or did you have to re-organise because of Covid?

Definitely not! We wanted a big wedding to include our large families and friends from all over, good food, DJ, you know the usual!

-What were the most difficult things to organise about a small wedding?

Not a lot really! We took a while to find a restaurant with 17 of us as the hospitality industry was still a bit vague on what they could and could not do, but that seems to have been resolved now so it will be much easier for couples to find a venue. We were able to have a beautiful little side room to ourselves at no extra cost. (And it was still under the eat out to help out scheme so we saved heaps of money on this)

-What were the easiest things to organise?

The venue, as registry offices had only just reopened so there was plenty of availability and many people have simply postponed until next year so registry offices are a great option and there are some beautiful ones out there!

-Did your wedding feel like a wedding?

YES YES YES! We were just so excited to be able to get married in the situation as it currently is! The day felt so so special with just our closest family there and a couple of friends and all those who were able to link in via Zoom! It didn't take away from the joy one bit and was just the perfect day! Bonus being we get to wear our wedding gear again when we CAN finally book our reception venue to include all our family and friends.

-What would be your advice to brides and grooms planning their day right now?

Just do it! Think of the positives - less hassle with planning, you can create a beautiful wedding on a budget and still get to share the joy at a later date with everyone. I mean what bride doesn't want to get to wear her dress twice!
